THE TOPIC TARGETED YOUNG COLLEGE-AGE ENTREPRENEURS
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, June 10, 2022 – For many young people in the Dominican Republic, it is a lifelong dream to start a small business. From selling garments to empanadas or planning events, the Dominican economy is a small business haven. Though many people hope to one day realize their dream of becoming self-employed, they may be daunted by the intricacies of the process. That is where the “How to Start a Business from Zero” forum comes in.
The event was held at INTEC, one of the top universities in the Dominican Republic. Jose Gonzalez, Executive Vice President at ERC, offered advice and covered key points that must be considered when successfully launching a start-up. ERC, one of the top international BPO providers of customer experience solutions, is involved in community and youth outreach programs such as this.
“Often, people’s fear of entrepreneurship lies in not fully understanding what actions must be executed prior to launching your project,” said Gonzalez after the event. “When starting a business for the first time, people ask themselves, ‘Where can I start’? However, many things need to be taken into consideration; Is your idea business worthy? How do you create a work team? Define cashflows, research suppliers, evaluate the need for financing, and carry out a development plan. All these things need to be buttoned down in your business plan.”
A finance expert with over 15 years of experience, Jose Gonzalez frequently speaks at panels and conferences covering a wide variety of fascinating topics. He holds an MBA in Finance from the University of Miami. He is a board member of the National Association of Young Entrepreneurs and the American Chamber of Commerce Dominican Republic. Most recently, he was selected to the Mercado Magazine 40 Under 40 list with other elite professionals in the Dominican Republic.
